Position: Patient Access Representative

Schedule:

  • Full-Time, Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • Rotating 12-hour shifts, including weekends
  • PRN shifts also available

Position Summary

The Patient Access Representative plays a vital role in creating a positive first impression for our patients. This position is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service while efficiently managing patient registration, verifying demographic and insurance information, and ensuring accurate and timely completion of all registration processes.

This role requires strong attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to navigate a fast-paced healthcare environment while maintaining a patient-centered approach.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver outstanding customer service and foster a welcoming environment for all patients
  • Accurately collect, verify, and update patient demographic and insurance information
  • Determine patient eligibility, benefits, and financial responsibility, including co-pays and deductibles
  • Process payments and provide appropriate documentation and receipts
  • Ensure all registration documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with hospital standards
  • Collaborate with clinical departments and physician offices to support patient flow and scheduling
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA and EMTALA regulations
  • Utilize effective problem-solving and service recovery techniques when addressing patient concerns
  • Assist with training new team members and participate in ongoing education
  • Perform switchboard duties as needed, ensuring prompt and professional call handling
  • Support emergency communication protocols and hospital code procedures

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Experience:

  • Previous experience in patient registration, switchboard operations, or healthcare administration preferred
  • Familiarity with medical terminology is a plus

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic computer proficiency and typing skills (minimum 40 WPM preferred)
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This role involves a combination of sitting, standing, and walking throughout the shift in a fast-paced, high-demand environment. Candidates should be comfortable with frequent movement, computer use, and occasional lifting with assistance. Strong sensory awareness (vision and hearing) and manual dexterity are required to perform daily tasks effectively.
