24-hour clinical laboratory services are available in Toccoa, GA at the Stephens County Hospital System. Accredited by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and the College of American Pathologist (CAP), the laboratory offers a wide array of clinical lab tests based on the needs of the patient as well as the needs of the Medical Staff. 

Laboratory Functions at Stephens County Hospital

The primary function of the Laboratory is to assist physicians in the diagnosis of disease states and monitor various medical conditions. Physicians determine 70% of their medical decisions based upon the laboratory’s measurable data. Therefore the Laboratory is a very important diagnostic tool for the Medical Staff. The Laboratory at Stephens County Hospital is staffed by certified technologists and support personnel and is led by a Board Certified Pathologist.

Questions About Lab Testing

If you are scheduled for laboratory testing onsite in Toccoa, GA, you may have a few questions. We have included some information that you may find helpful.

Appointment Only Testing

Most laboratory testing is performed on a walk-in basis with the exception of the following testing, which must be done by  APPOINTMENT ONLY:

  • Glucose tolerance testing
  • Therapeutic phlebotomy

Self-Referral Testing

  • Breath alcohol
  • Drug Uranalysis

Please note that Self-referral Testing Is Not Covered Under Insurance. Payment Is Required At Time Of Service

Fasting for Lab Testing

Some testing services require fasting. Fasting is defined as 8 to 12 hours without food or drink – including chewing gum and tobacco use. Those tests include:

  • Glucose
  • Cholesterol & other lipid testing

Medications 

If you are currently taking any medication, do not stop taking prescribed medications unless your physician instructed you to do so.

Registration for Laboratory Testing 

All patients must register at Outpatient Registration or E.R. Registration during the following days and times:

Monday – Friday (Business Hours)
Outpatient Registration (located at the rear of the Hospital, the right entrance at the Dome)
7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Monday – Friday (After Hours)

E.R. Registration (located in the Emergency Department)
5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Saturday & Sunday

E.R. Registration (located in the Emergency Department)
7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
