Diet Aide
Full Time - 10:30 am - 7:00 pm
The Diet Aide is responsible for serving food, patient tray assembly, and preparation of basic food items and for routine cleaning and maintenance duties.
Education:
Ability to read and write.
Experience:
Previous food experience preferred.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Sets up patient tray line with cold foods and condiments.
- Prepares coffee and tea for tray line and cafeteria.
- Works on tray line in the Starter or Runner positions.
- Prepares patient late trays.
- Prepares and labels all between meal nourishments accurately.
- Checks temperatures on serving lines.
- Lines trays and bags flatware.
- Assures that hot foods are served hot; cold foods served cold.
- Accepts Team Leader’s authority on patient tray line.
- Prepares salad bar.
- Prepares and sets up food bars.
- Assists in preparation of other food items as assigned.
- Practices good sanitation when working with food.
- Sets-up cafeteria for breakfast service with cold food items.
- Stocks cafeteria with napkins, carry outs, cups, lids, dishes, flatware and condiments prior to each meal and as needed during meal serving hours.
- Serves on cafeteria line and keeps line clean and tidy.
- Cleans cafeteria tables, condiment rack and fills salt and pepper shakers
- Writes menu board neatly.
- Operates cash register and balances drawer.
- Maintains adequate levels on salad and food bar items during meals.
- Insures cleanliness and tidiness of bars.
- Delivers patient late trays promptly.
- Delivers floor stock to nursing pantries daily; completes floor stock check sheet and insures adequate stock levels.
- Delivers patient meal carts to nursing units, returns carts to kitchen after meals.
- Delivers nourishments to patient or nursing unit.
- Delivers food/supplies to Doctor’s Lounge.
- Follows and completes duties on weekly cleaning schedule.
- Cleans food carts after each meal with a germicidal solution.
- Cleans daily with a germicidal solution all stainless steel surfaces, including carts, equipment, sinks and counter tops.
- Keeps storage areas neat and clean with all food covered, labeled and dated.
- Removes trash and garbage from the kitchen area and places in dumpster at the end of each shift or more often as needed.
- Sweeps the floors and mops with a heavy-duty cleaner when the Stocks Clerk is off duty.
- Keeps dish room window clear and clean.
- Records temperature of dishwasher, pot sink, and records sanitizer concentration in pot sanitizing sink. .
- Dismantles, washes, sanitizes and properly stores all trays, pots, pans serving utensils, can openers and ice scoops.
- Cleans and sanitizes coffee pots and tea urns daily.
- Keeps dishes, pots and pans washed up as scheduled.
- Leaves dish room and pot and pan area clean when finished.
- Follows job outlines to insure all duties are completed in a timely manner.
- Completes routine task without overtime.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions
- Physically demanding, high-stress environment
- May be up walking on feet up to 8 hours per day
- Must have the cognitive ability to perform in this role. Critical and executive level thinking is required
- Must have strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
- Have near normal hearing – able to hear alarms/telephone/normal speaking voice/webinars
- Have near normal vision – clarity of vision (both near and far) either corrected on non-corrected, ability to distinguish colors
- Have good manual dexterity and eye-hand-foot coordination
