Stephens County Hospital Is Now a Designated Level III Emergency Cardiac Care Center

Stephens County Hospital has achieved a significant milestone in its ongoing commitment to advancing healthcare in Northeast Georgia. The hospital has been officially designated as a Level III Emergency Cardiac Care Center (ECCC) by the Georgia Department of Public Health, Office of EMS and Trauma. This designation is valid through April 30, 2029, and recognizes the hospital’s ability to provide critical, life-saving cardiac care to its community.

In a letter announcing the designation, the Department commended Stephens County Hospital and its staff for their dedication to excellence in emergency cardiac care. The recognition highlights the hospital’s role in improving survival rates for patients experiencing heart attacks and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, two of the most time-sensitive medical emergencies, and the number one cause of mortality in our community and region.

This achievement builds on the hospital’s recent momentum in strengthening specialized care services. In 2024, Stephens County Hospital earned its stroke designation, marking a major step forward in its ability to rapidly diagnose and treat stroke patients. Both stroke and cardiac emergencies are closely linked, often requiring coordinated, time-critical interventions and highly trained clinical teams. Together, these designations reflect a broader investment in comprehensive cardiovascular and neurological care.

By earning ECCC status, Stephens County Hospital becomes part of a statewide, coordinated “systems approach” to emergency cardiac care. This model ensures that patients receive timely, standardized treatment across a network of providers, improving outcomes and saving lives.

Hospital leadership views this designation not as a final achievement, but as part of a larger, ongoing mission. Stephens County Hospital continues to expand its capabilities to meet the evolving healthcare needs of its community,  bringing advanced care closer to home.

The recognition from the Georgia Department of Public Health underscores the hospital’s commitment to quality, collaboration, and patient-centered care. As Stephens County Hospital continues to build on its stroke and cardiac care programs, the community can expect continued access to high-quality emergency services.
