CT/X-Ray Staff Technologist:

7:00 am - 11:00 pm - Full Time - 16 hour shifts every Saturday and Sunday

 

CT/X-Ray Staff Technologist performs diagnostic exams consistent with quality CT/Radiology Imaging.

 

Job Summary:

Under the direction of a Radiologist and Supervisor, employee performs radiographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgement with ingenuity and initiative to apply ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated areas of procedures required.

 

Education:

Completion of a formal Radiologic Technology program in good standing with the ARRT.

 

Licensure/Certification:

Registered Radiology Technologist.

Registry in CT preferred.

 

Provides care for patients of the following age groups:

 

Infants (Newborn to One Year)                 Adolescent (Ten to 18 Years)

Toddlers (Two to Four Years)                    Adult (19 to 69 Years)

Child (Five to Nine Years)                         Geriatric (70 and Above)

                                                                                               

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Checks two patient identifiers for proper identification prior to exam.
  • Explains procedure demonstrating interpersonal skills in order to interact with patients who may be under physical and/or mental stress.
  • Transfers and properly positions patients for exams in order to obtain desired radiographic results according to the physician’s specifications.
  • Provides immobilization and protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Reviews patient records for accuracy and compliance with treatment plan; obtains appropriate consents.
  • Selects appropriate technical factors for exam being performed.
  • Selects and loads cassettes using film markers correctly and consistently; annotates diagnosis on films.
  • Takes appropriate measures to decrease likelihood of retakes; documents cause for needed retakes.
  • Monitors patients throughout procedure and takes proper measures to ensure safety.
  • QC’s x-ray on CR’s for accuracy and transfers to PACS for dictation.
  • Verifies studies on PACS.
  • Utilizes mobile x-ray equipment as necessary.
  • Alerts appropriate personnel when equipment maintenance is needed.
  • Operates Digital Fluro System.
  • Prepares room according to type of procedure being performed.
  • Mixes barium, prepares radiopaque or other contrast materials and administers according to procedures.
  • Holds and positions patient as directed by physician.
  • Exposes proper radiographs according to protocol of procedure.
  • Advises patient of measures to take in order to prevent any possible side-effects (i.e. nausea, constipation, etc.)
  • Maintains daily log of patient examinations and contrast medium information.
  • Checks two patient identifiers for proper identification prior to IV procedure.
  • Determines appropriate IV site and needle gauge.
  • Accurately injects patient to ensure lack of infiltration and patient comfort.
  • Performs i-stat procedure if necessary according to protocol and logs appropriately.
  • Prioritizes scheduling of patients according to medical condition.
  • Determines type of transportation based on patient status.
  • Assesses interdepartmental communication sheets for patient identification, exam and condition of patient.
  • Notifies appropriate individual when supplies are needed to avoid shortages.
  • Maintains records of contrast medium and drug supplies.
  • Operates removal of needed contrast for procedures from Omnicell correctly using two patient identifiers.
  • Understands, supports and applies departmental/hospital policies, procedures and standards at all times.
  • Promotes quality of care and cost effectiveness within the department through appropriate utilization of equipment, supplies and labor.
  • Alerts supervisor/manager to quality improvement opportunities for both patient care and staff performance.
  • Maintains proper QC for specific areas such as CT, i-stat, MRI, etc.
  • Performs CT procedures on adult, geriatric and pediatric patients.
  • Checks two patient identifiers for proper identification prior to exam.
  • Reviews patient record for accuracy and compliance with treatment plan.
  • Reviews CT Questionnaire and Meds Reconciliation Sheet with patient.
  • Obtains completed consent forms for all contrast studies; reports all refusals to ordering physician.
  • Programs computer for type of exam being performed.
  • Obtains additional cuts as directed by Radiologist.
  • Recognizes abnormal reactions and responds per protocol.
  • Operates power injector for contrast media exams.
  • Obtains and completes I-stat procedures properly.
  • Obtains contrast needed for exams from Omnicell.
  • CT Records and Archives
  • Maintains daily log of patient procedures.
  • Archives images to PACS and verifies that all images are sent to PACS
