Summary:

Under the direction of the program director and nurse manager, evaluates, plans, and administers medically prescribed recreational therapy treatment to patients.

Position:

Assists therapist in performing a comprehensive physical, psychosocial, and safety assessment, as evidenced by clinical documentation.

Collaborates with therapist to develops a plan of care to promote optimum function and safety, as documented in the clinical record.

Plans for and provides activity therapy treatment on the unit, reassessing the patients’ status during their stay and ensuring quality of care as documented in the clinical records.

Coordinates patient care with other clinical team members ensuring optimal patient care and communication, as noted in the clinical record.

Completes all required paperwork and procedures to ensure that documentation reflects care provided and outcomes achieved, as evidenced in clinical records.

Maintains and enhances personal knowledge, as well as promoting professional standards in occupational therapy.

Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job‑related hazards.

Follows the hospitals exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.

Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.

Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team inter- and intra- departmentally to facilitate the department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.

Qualifications:

Associates Degree and two years of activity therapy experience.or a combination of education and healthcare experience.

CPI Certification, refresher and new certification training provided at orientation.

CPR Certified

Effective communication skills

EMR experience and knowledge

Ability to work with patients of all cognitive levels
