Radiology Supervisor - Full Time - Day Shift - Monday - Friday

 

Education:

Completion of a formal Radiologic Technology program in good standing with the ARRT.

 

License / Certification:

Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist required.

Registration in Ultrasound, CT and/or Mammography preferred.

 

Provides care for patients of the following age groups:

 

Infants (Newborn to One Year)                                 Adolescent (Ten to 18 Years)

Toddlers (Two to Four Years)                                   Adult (19 to 69 Years)

Child (Five to Nine Years)                                         Geriatric (70 and Above)

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Checks two patient identifiers for proper identification prior to exam.
  • Explains procedure demonstrating interpersonal skills in order to interact with patients who may be under physical and/or mental stress.
  • Transfers and properly positions patients for exams in order to obtain desired radiographic results according to the physician’s specifications.
  • Provides immobilization and protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Reviews patient records for accuracy and compliance with treatment plan; obtains appropriate consents.
  • Selects appropriate technical factors for the exam being performed.
  • Selects and loads exams using annotations correctly and consistently; annotates diagnosis on exams.
  • Takes appropriate measures to decrease likelihood of retakes; documents cause for needed retakes.
  • Monitors patients throughout the procedure and takes proper measures to ensure safety.
  • QC’s x-rays on for accuracy and transfers to PACS for dictation.
  • Verifies studies on PACS.
  • Utilizes mobile x-ray equipment as necessary.
  • Alerts appropriate personnel when equipment maintenance is needed.
  • Operates Digital Fluoro System.
  • Operates imaging equipment accurately and manufacturers specifications.
  • Prepares the room according to the type of procedure being performed.
  • Holds and positions patients as directed by physicians.
  • Exposes proper radiographs according to protocol of procedure.
  • Advises patients of measures to take in order to prevent any possible side-effects (i.e. nausea, constipation, etc.)
  • Utilizes “time out” verification and checks two patient identifiers prior to IV injection.
  • Determines appropriate IV site and needle gauge.
  • Accurately injects patients to ensure lack of infiltration and patient comfort.
  • Performs I-stat procedure per protocol if needed for creatinine/BUN levels.
  • Notifies appropriate individuals when supplies are needed to avoid shortages.
  • Understands, supports and applies departmental/hospital policies, procedures and standards at all times.
  • Promotes quality of care and cost effectiveness within the department through appropriate utilization of equipment, supplies and labor.
  • Alerts supervisor/manager to quality improvement opportunities for both patient care and staff performance.
  • Adjusts assignments as necessary based on staffing and patient needs.
  • Ensures that professional and patient standards are maintained.
  • Provides manager with feedback regarding both satisfactory and unsatisfactory performance.
  • Maintains staff schedules and on-call rotations on a timely basis.
  • Monitors overtime with staff schedules for the department.
  • Communicates with staff regarding both satisfactory and unsatisfactory performance.
  • Documents critical incidents in MedTrainer.
  • Provides technical and professional information to physicians.
  • Attends all mandatory and appropriate elective educational offerings.
  • Demonstrates appropriate clinical skills and knowledge through job performance.
  • Establishes professional goals and objectives for self and staff.
  • Attends and contributes to departmental/hospital committees or group meetings as assigned.
  • Input is acknowledged, utilized, and documented in an accurate, timely manner in order to provide continuity of patient care.

  • Assists Manager with accreditation of staff.
  • Assists with monitoring of staff QC to meet FDA/ACR standards.
  • Oversees accreditation process per modality and verifies standards are met.
  • Monitors work areas for timely workflow.
  • Communicates work status to necessary personnel.
  • Insures employees follow safety procedures (radiation badges), monitors and prepares required reports
  • of radiation exposure.
  • Maintains the CT logs for the i-stat/controls and ACR accreditation.
  • Maintains the turnaround times for stroke procedures on a monthly basis.
  • Takes corrective actions when actual results are less than established standards.

Toddlers (2 to 4 Years)

  • Provides a protective environment; does not leave unattended.
  • Recognizes and reports signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect.
  • Assesses mobility and cooperation of toddler for examination needed.
  • Involves parents in the examination as well as mobility of patients.
  • Stresses to patents the importance of mobility to decrease the need for repeat exams.
  • Explains what will happen during the exam.
  • Provides comfort to patients to assure cooperation.
  • Evaluates x-rays to ensure what is needed for diagnosis is on film.
  • Explains to parents what needs to be done after examination.

 

Child (5 to 9 Years)

  • Assesses patient’s comprehension of what needs to be done and cooperation level.
  • Recognizes and reports signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect.
  • Involves parents in care when necessary.
  • Recognizes a child's need to exercise some control.
  • Provides for privacy.
  • Assesses for non-verbal needs for support.
  • Evaluates x-rays to ensure what is needed for diagnosis is on film.
  • Keeps explanations short, simple and logical using correct terminology

 

Adolescent (12 to 18 years)

  • Assesses a patient's comprehension level to evaluate cooperation and mobility.
  • Recognizes and reports signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect.
  • Involves patient verbally and physically with positioning to ensure adequate exam.
  • Evaluates x-rays to ensure what is needed for diagnosis is on film.
  • Explains to parents and patients what needs to be done following the procedure.
  • Provides for privacy.

 

Adult (19 to 69 years)

  • Evaluates self-care abilities/limitations and identifies need for additional safety measures.
  • Recognizes and reports signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect.
  • Involves patient verbally and physically with positioning to ensure adequate exam.
  • Evaluates x-rays to ensure what is needed for diagnosis is on film.
  • Explains to the patient what needs to be done following the procedure.
  • Provides for privacy.
  • Allows patients to refuse exams when requested.

 

Geriatric (70 years and older)

  • Evaluates self-care abilities/limitations and identifies need for additional safety measures.
  • Recognizes and reports signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect.
  • Involves patient verbally and physically with positioning to ensure adequate exam.
  • Explains to the patient and/or family member what needs to be done following the procedure.
  • Evaluates x-rays to ensure what is needed for diagnosis is on film.
  • Provides for privacy.
  • Evaluates the level of anxiety and cooperation of patients.
  • Allows patients to refuse exams when requested.
