Licensed Practical Nurse - Full Time - Monday - Friday with call required
Education/Experience
Graduation of an accredited licensed practical nursing program.
Licensure:
BLS required
ACLS required
Successful Completion of licensure exam for LPN
Duties and Responsibilities:
Learns to make assessment of the needs of the patient and the surgeon by using physician's preference cards, policy, and procedure manuals.
Scrubs with assistance or supervision and recognizes personal skill level.
Constantly improves her/his scrubbing skills to include aseptic technique, draping, suture, and basic instrument care.
Organizes work and begins to demonstrate ability to prioritize patient needs.
Makes RN aware of changing clinical situations.
Maintains a professional demeanor.
Demonstrates competency in clinical skills and knowledge pertinent to the practice and education of the licensed practical nurse.
Capable clinician who focuses on expanding knowledge and skills.
Consistently provides effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients.
Seeks as well as provides feedback for improved clinical practice.
Works together with other care team members to recruit and retain excellent care team members.

Demonstrates effective time management by completing patient case assignments with appropriate turnover average.
Demonstrates competency and skill proficiency in preparing and assisting with patients undergoing surgical procedures and with specimen collection.
Demonstrates competency and skill proficiency in operating patient care equipment.
New Grad: focuses primarily on developing knowledge and skills and showing growth in care ability and surgical assisting skills.
Functions as scrub person in Operating Room and assumes other duties as assigned:
Assists set up of cases with proper instrumentation and supplies.
Follows hospital policy for hand asepsis.
Perioperative LPN
Participates in accurate sponge, instrument, and needle counts along with surgical tech and/or RN.
Is an active participant in timeout.
Maintains organized sterile field ensuring instrumentation is free of bioburden and instruments returned to correct tray in a safe manner to prevent damage or injury.
Accurately prepares specimen, delivers to specimen collection area with identifying labels and cards filled out correctly.
Monitors and maintains integrity of sterile field:
Assists in room monitoring of equipment, temperature, and humidity; escalates any abnormal findings.
Adheres to infection control practices.
Assists with positioning, prepping, and draping.
Ensures proper patient body alignment during intra-operative phase by monitoring checks e.g., feet, arms, etc.
Provides exposure through appropriate use of retractors, instruments, suction, and sponging techniques.
Handles tissue as directed by the surgeon.
Assists with removal of sutures and staples.
Demonstrates knowledge of safety policies and procedures.
Contributes to productivity of the department by demonstrating effective time management:
Expedites safe, rapid turnover of cases assisting with clean up and set up of new case.
Accurately reports supplies used to ensure proper charging.
Reports all problems to RN/supervisor.
Meets requirements of overtime, call changes, and holiday coverage. Accepts call as assigned and is available within 30 minutes or less.
Contributes to the overall efficiency of Perioperative Services by performing routine tasks:
Performs special assignments as indicated by licensure.
Assists with daily cleaning of rooms, workroom, central core, recovery, and outpatient areas.

This position will care for patients from pediatrics to geriatrics.

Professional Requirements:
High school diploma or GED
Licensed to practice as a licensed practical nurse within the state of Georgia
BLS certification
ACLS certification
