Cook/Diet Aide - Full Time - Early Shift - Rotating Days and Weekends

 

Education:

Ability to read and write.

 

Experience:

Previous food experience preferred.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Sets up patient tray line with cold foods and condiments.
  • Prepares coffee and tea for tray line and cafeteria.
  • Works on tray line in the Starter or Runner positions.
  • Prepares patient late trays.
  • Prepares and labels all between meal nourishments accurately.
  • Checks temperatures on serving lines.
  • Lines trays and bags flatware.
  • Assures that hot foods are served hot; cold foods served cold.
  • Accepts Team Leader’s authority on patient tray line.
  • Prepares salad bar.
  • Prepares and sets up food bars.
  • Assists in preparation of other food items as assigned.
  • Practices good sanitation when working with food.
  • Sets-up cafeteria for breakfast service with cold food items.
  • Stocks cafeteria with napkins, carry outs, cups, lids, dishes, flatware and condiments prior to each meal and as needed during meal serving hours.
  • Serves on cafeteria line and keeps line clean and tidy.
  • Cleans cafeteria tables, condiment rack and fills salt and pepper shakers
  • Writes menu board neatly.
  • Operates cash register and balances drawer.
  • Maintains adequate levels on salad and food bar items during meals.
  • Insures cleanliness and tidiness of bars.
  • Delivers patient late trays promptly.
  • Delivers floor stock to nursing pantries daily; completes floor stock check sheet and insures adequate stock levels.
  • Delivers patient meal carts to nursing units, returns carts to kitchen after meals.
  • Delivers nourishments to patient or nursing unit.
  • Delivers food/supplies to Doctor’s Lounge.
  • Follows and completes duties on weekly cleaning schedule.
  • Cleans food carts after each meal with a germicidal solution.
  • Cleans daily with a germicidal solution all stainless steel surfaces, including carts, equipment, sinks and counter tops.
  • Keeps storage areas neat and clean with all food covered, labeled and dated.
  • Removes trash and garbage from the kitchen area and places in dumpster at the end of each shift or more often as needed.
  • Sweeps the floors and mops with a heavy-duty cleaner when the Stocks Clerk is off duty.
  • Keeps dish room window clear and clean.
  • Records temperature of dishwasher, pot sink, and records sanitizer concentration in pot sanitizing sink. .
  • Dismantles, washes, sanitizes and properly stores all trays, pots, pans serving utensils, can openers and ice scoops.
  • Cleans and sanitizes coffee pots and tea urns daily.
  • Keeps dishes, pots and pans washed up as scheduled.
  • Leaves dish room and pot and pan area clean when finished.
  • Follows job outlines to insure all duties are completed in a timely manner.
  • Completes routine task without overtime.
  • Prepares entrees and hot food items for patients, cafeteria and special functions.
  • Follows menus, package instructions and recipes.
  • Determines the amount of food needed, with a minimum of under/over production and waste.
  • Insures high quality results (food looks and tastes good; not overcooked).
  • Utilizes leftovers in a cost-conscious manner.
  • Insures that all meats are thawed in refrigerator in advance and completes meat unthaw list..
  • Practices good sanitation when working with food.
  • Insures that food is covered, labeled, dated, stored properly and not wasted.
  • Insures that hot food is served hot and cold food is served cold.
  • Prepares patient meals according to patient menu.
  • Insures that food is prepared and portioned according to diet order – i.e. low sodium, ADA, renal, etc.
  • Insures patient plates are attractive, tasty and maintains proper temperatures.
  • Insures that all special food items and pureed foods are ready before tray line starts.
  • Dismantles hot food line and stores food properly.
  • Accepts Team Leader’s authority on patient tray line.
  • Prepares cafeteria entrees and hot food according to cafeteria menu.
  • Sets up hot food line.
  • Insures that food is displayed attractively.
  • Maintains food levels during serving hours; keeps pans filled and clean.
  • Dismantles hot food line and stores food properly.
  • Organizes daily routine to insure that all work is completed on time.
  • Prepares food as close to serving time as possible to assure quality.
  • Insures that food for patient line and cafeteria line is ready to serve on time.

  • Have near normal hearing – able to hear alarms/telephone/normal speaking voice/ webinars
  • Have near normal vision – clarity of vision (both near and far) either corrected on non-corrected, ability to distinguish colors
  • Have good manual dexterity and eye-hand-foot coordination
  • Standing – continuously within the shift (67-100%)
  • Walking – continuously within the shift (67-100%)
  • Climbing – occasionally within the shift (1-33%)
  • Bending/stooping – frequently within the shift (34-66%)
