Bio Medical Engineer - Full Time - Day Shift - Monday-Friday 7am - 3:30pm with call required.

 

Performs all duties without direct supervision. This position is responsible for adhering to established service standards and for reinforcing service standards with all employees. Independently, performs skilled technical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of complex diagnostic and therapeutic medical devices. Incumbent may be expected to be present during the clinical use of equipment in area of expertise. Provides assistance to technicians and operators of medical devices. Participates in disaster, fire, and other emergencies;observes all hospital safety practices and regulations.

 

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Require an Associate degree in Electronics (preferably biomedical) or equivalent biomedical military training

 

Experience:

Requires a minimum of two (2) years of progressively complex experience (troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, design, and modification) as a hospital-based biomedical engineer technician; Four (4) years of servicing complex electronic equipment will be considered.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certification, as well as, previous factory service certification on clinical equipment and systems.
  • Prefer demonstrated broad experience in microcomputer systems and software, client server concepts and local and wide area network concepts, as well as, demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office or similar products (primarily Word and Excel) and networking technology.
  • Prefer familiarity with codes applicable to field and industry.
  • Prefer proficiency in written and verbal communication.
  • Prefer proficiency in the use of test equipment and tools pertinent to the field.
  • Prefer the ability to take initiative, provide leadership when needed, and perform with minimal supervision.

                                                                                                               

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on medical electronic devices in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, applicable codes, standards, and department policy.
  • Conducts scheduled and unscheduled electrical and functional safety inspections on medical electronic devices.
  • Regularly informs supervisor of problems encountered with repairs of calibration of equipment.
  • Analyzes, troubleshoots, and repairs diagnostic and therapeutic medical devices utilizing established electronic test and measurement equipment and techniques.
  • Installs, calibrates, and tests new medical electronic devices and/or systems.
  • Modifies existing electronic devices and systems to meet the special needs of the user in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.
  • Maintains microcomputer systems and software, client server concepts and local and wide area networks including Patient Monitor systems, Central Monitoring PC's, Wireless Telemetry devices and associated infrastructure.
  • Maintains Networked Nurse Call systems to include software configuration and programming, network functionality, and uptime of alerting interfaces.
  • Configures, modifies, and maintains networked interfaces for multiple modalities to include Imaging, Electrocardiology, Ultrasound, and any other networked Medical Device.
  • Makes recommendations for capital equipment replacements to leadership.
  • Maintains all equipment in safe, working conditions Carries out work request  promptly:
  • Acts as a resource on more complex technical biomedical equipment issues.
  • Always investigates equipment problems and seeks solutions promptly, with no more than (2) two incidents per year.
  • Trains medical staff on the safe and proper use of highly complex medical electronic devices and systems. Provides operational and technical advice on highly complex equipment to medical staff. Interacts with clinical staff on a regular basis to ensure needs are being met.
  • Exhibits capability to solve situations before an accident or mistake is made.
  • Maintains appropriate, timely and consistent communication with customers at all levels of work progress and/or any stoppages.
  • Has proficient knowledge of all test equipment and meters, their use and maintenance. Ensures all hospital equipment/ tools are properly cared for and secured when not in use.
  • Assists in the procurement and maintaining of the necessary parts inventory.
  • Interacts with manufacturer representatives to obtain the necessary technical product information.
  • Requests and/or orders necessary repair and spare parts according to established procedures and contract relationships.
  • Completes all work and leaves work area in a clean and orderly fashion:
  • Ensures work area has been completely cleaned, all excess materials picked up, furniture and/or equipment moved back in place, ceiling tile restored or replaced as necessary, and area is left in an orderly fashion and good appearance.
