Stephens County Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of a fourth practice to the Stephens County Hospital Physician Group – Obstetrics & Gynecology. The Obstetrics & Gynecology Practice opened for business on Tuesday, August 1st with the Stephens County Hospital Physician Group welcoming two physicians into the group; Katie McKinney, MD and Tony Castro-Poveda, MD.

Dr. Katie McKinney, a native of Athens, Georgia, earned her medical degree from St. George’s University and completed her residency at Louisiana State University Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge. She is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She is fluent in Spanish and has made her home in Toccoa. Her hobbies include reading, running and a love for traveling. Dr. McKinney has lived in Africa and Mexico before attending medical school and traveled to several countries for missions. Her mission travels include Jamaica, India, Mexico, South Africa, Zambia, Brazil and Honduras.

Dr. Tony Castro-Poveda is a native of Macon, Georgia and has been a familiar face at Stephens County Hospital. For the past nine months, Dr. Tony, as he is affectionately known, has been working in the New Impression Maternal Services Unit.  He earned his medical degree from Mercer University and completed his residency at Charleston Area Medical Center. His certifications include the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Georgia OB/GYN Society with 20 years of experience in his field. Dr. Tony is an avid fisherman and hunter. He has two children, a daughter Marla, age 14 and a son Ben age 10. He enjoys coaching and playing with his children in their sporting activities.

The Stephens County Hospital Physician Group – Obstetrics & Gynecology Practice is conveniently located on the campus of Stephens County Hospital. Both Dr. McKinney and Dr. Castro-Poveda are accepting new patients and scheduling future appointments. The office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays. Dr. Brian Raybon has twenty-five years’ experience with nineteen years in practice in Stephens County and affiliation with Stephens County Hospital.  Dr. Raybon holds double board certification through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the specialty of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery.  

Dr. Raybon along with Dr. McKinney and Dr. Castro-Poveda are committed to working together in providing quality, personalized obstetric and gynecological care in this community. Although they are located in their own individual practices, they are united in providing women’s services to our community. With 45 years combined experience in caring for women, there is no reason to leave Stephens County for your obstetrics and gynecology needs.
