Thank You
7/07/2009
Last week when we wrote about the two entities-Stephens County Commission and Hospital Authority- working together we were reminded how thankless those positions of authority can many times be.
So on this week that we celebrate garnering our country’s independence, not only do we thank those that fought and continue to fight for the freedom we enjoy abroad, but also say a big “thank you” to the many community leaders, workers, and volunteers that fight for the many issues and causes here at home.
We thank the public officials that have the burden of making those tough decisions that affect our everyday lives. These people in general feel a calling to serve their fellow man. They are paid very little in comparison with the persecution they are put through with almost every decision. Very few decisions make everyone happy.
We thank those that do the grunt work for the numerous community organizations and charities. Many times in smaller communities like Toccoa it’s the same people that give their time and efforts to many organizations. We say “thank you” for your generosity, kindness, and compassion. Many organizations that serve our community would not function, or be here at all, without your dedication to community service.
This week as we look back on what gaining independence has meant for all of us-let us remember especially those that made the ultimate sacrifice, but don’t forget about those that sacrifice here everyday to make our community a better place. This democracy engine will not run alone. It takes those that step outside their comfort level to keep what is still the greatest country on earth on track. And for those we say Thank You!
